ITC Forest School First Aid
Merchant Taylors’ School, Crosby, Liverpool.
This course has been designed for Forest School Practitioners and covers a range of first aid skills required to deal with injury and illness in a more remote environment.
It is achieved by completing a 2-day (16 hour) course. Learners attending this course can also gain a Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid to meet their workplace requirements in EYFS or primary settings
The skills and knowledge learnt on this course are contextualised to a Forest Schools setting and will be applied to adults, children and infants. There are lots of practical based scenarios to practise and apply your skills in an outdoor setting.
Over the 2 days the course will include the following:
Managing own safety in an outdoor first aid incident
Managing group safety in an outdoor setting
Assessment procedure of a casualty including primary and secondary survey
Managing an unconscious casualty
Protecting a casualty from the environment – Hypothermia and hyperthermia
Safe airway positions
CPR protocols for cardiac arrest and drowning
Use of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators)
Treatment for bleeding and shock
First Aid for Burns
Dealing with fractures, head, neck and spine injuries
Medical emergencies: seizures, anaphylaxis, strokes, diabetes and asthma
Bites, stings and outdoor related infections such as Weil’s Disease
Triage and incident management in the outdoor setting
All our courses are valid for 3 years and all our trainers have extensive qualifications and experience based in schools and the outdoors.
