First Aid for Cyclists – 4 Hours

This first aid for cyclists course is designed for cyclists and covers common cycling injuries, including when to remove a helmet, dealing with potential neck and spine injuries as well as looking after casualty in more remote locations.

This course meets your first aid requirements for ride leaders, coaches and instructors with British Cycling UK.

Our first aid courses are supportive and flexible to adapt to your activity needs. All our highly skilled tutors are very experienced teachers and outdoor leaders and enthusiasts with a fresh, fun and friendly approach to delivering outdoor first aid. Our unique Act Fast First games and activities have been designed for you to leave our courses feeling highly skilled and confident first aiders and ready to ACT FAST in an outdoor emergency.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The First Aid for Cyclists covers the following:

Minimising risk in an outdoor emergency situation
Safe accident procedures including primary and secondary casualty survey
Safe airway positions
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and use of AEDs
Treatment for bleeding and shock
Appropriate first aid kits and outdoor equipment
Managing fractures and dislocations in the outdoors
First aid for sprains and strains and soft tissue injuries
Serious head injuries and helmet removal
Managing a casualty with a suspected spinal injury

Course Duration & Assessment:

The training and assessment typically consists of a 4-hour course. 

Students are assessed continuously by tutor observation of ‘real-life’ skills in a friendly and supportive way. There are no written tests to complete at the end of the course as the outcomes are assessed by demonstration of practical first aid in our fun and interactive outdoor scenario-based approach throughout the two days day.
