Level 3 Sports First Aid
Beverley Enterprise Centre, Beverley, East Yorkshire.
This 1-day level 3 qualification is a fully practical first aid course in dealing with sports and exercise related injuries as well as basic life support. It is suitable for sports coaches, sports therapists, fitness instructors and PE teachers.
There are no pre-requisites to attend this course.
Course content-
Safe best practice and awareness of current regulations
Sports specific practical scenario training
A systematic approach to incident management. Primary Survey
Vital signs
Airway Management – safe airway positions
Return to play decisions following on field assessment using SALTAPS
Recognition of concussion – use of Maddock’s questions
Soft tissue injuries, strains and sprains – when to and when not to use ice
CPR Resuscitation procedures – single and multi-person scenarios
Safe use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
Course Overview
This qualification is for the sports person, coach or spectator. As well as the basic life support and illness management topics found on most first aid courses, this course also includes key sports topics, such as:
Covering sport emergency first aid
Sport injury & return to activity decisions using SALTAPS and MADDOCKS Questions
Managing specialist sports kit such as gum shields
When to use ice, sprains and strains and immobilizing injuries
Sports specific first aid including head, neck and spinal injuries
CPR and defibrillator training
Course duration and assessment
Typically delivered over 1 day. Assessment is ongoing throughout the course and is interactive with outdoor scenario based practical training.
The trainer/assessors delivering this course will have a professional background in sport or be active practitioners in their own leisure time, with experience and commitment to working with groups in the sporting environment.

Revalidation
This qualification ‘license to practice’ is revalidated by attending another First Aid for Sport, Exercise and Fitness course in 3 years’ time.
