Level 3 Paediatric First Aid

This Level 3 Paediatric First Aid is a two-day course (12 hours) designed to provide you with the appropriate first aid skills and qualification to look after a child up to the age of 18. It is suitable for early years settings, childminders, primary schools, secondary schools and sixth form colleges. 

 

This qualification is accredited by the awarding body ITC First and this practical training course provides you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to ACT FAST when paediatric emergencies occur. Our highly engaging teaching and learning methods ensure your teams have the skills and confidence to deal with paediatric illnesses and injuries contexualising all our training to your education settings making it more realistic, relevant and memorable. The course meets all your OFSTED and EYFS requirements as well as CSSIW and Scottish Early Years.

 

Our paediatric first aid courses are supportive and flexible to adapt to your education setting and all our highly skilled tutors are very experienced teachers with a fresh, fun and friendly approach to delivering first aid. Our unique Act Fast First games and activities have been designed for you to leave our courses feeling highly skilled and confident first aiders and ready to Act Fast First in a paediatric first aid emergency.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The Level 3 Paediatric First Aid qualification covers the following:

 

  • Roles and responsibilities of the first aider
  • Minimising risk in an emergency situation
  • Safe accident procedures for infants and children (up to 18)
  • Safe airway positions
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for infants and children
  • Using an defibrillator for children
  • Dealing with choking for infants and children
  • Managing a casualty in seizure
  • Treatment for bleeding and shock
  • First aid for burns
  • Common minor injuries in schools such as bruises, splinters and nosebleeds
  • Appropriate first aid kits and equipment in schools
  •  Dealing with fractures and dislocations
  • Managing a spinal injury
  •  Dealing with head injuries
  • Common medical conditions in schools – Diabetes, Asthma and Epilepsy
  • Dealing with severe allergies and how to use an adrenaline auto injector
  • Completing accident forms

Course Duration & Assessment:

 

The training and assessment typically consists of a 2-day (12 hour) course.
Please also see our blended Paediatric First Aid option offering you 6 hours independent study prior to just a one-day (6 hour) face-to-face assessment day.
Students are assessed continuously by tutor observation of ‘real-life’ skills in a friendly and supportive way. There are no written tests to complete at the end of the course as the outcomes are assessed by demonstration of practical first aid in our fun and interactive scenario-based approach throughout the day.
This certificate is valid for three years and certificate renewal is by completion of another Level 3 Paediatric First Aid training course.
